Ensynch provides immunity from Internet virus to Managed Services customers

Tempe, AZ-based Ensynch, Inc. provided uninterrupted service to its Managed Services customers throughout the recent Internet-borne SQL Slammer attack as a result of its custom-designed network firewalls and diligent hot-fix maintenance procedures.

(PRWEB) January 31, 2003 - borne computer worm attack, Tempe, AZ-

Based Ensynch, Inc., continued to deliver uninterrupted service to its Managed Services customers. Dave Cook, Chief Information Officer for The Learning Station -- and partner with Ensynch in the Cox Education Network -- was relieved to learn that his company's servers had not been compromised by the "SQL Slammer" bug, reportedly the most damaging Internet attack in 18 months. "When I called Hunter [Bennett, Ensynch Director of Data Center Solutions], I was worried that our SQL Servers might have been hit. But we sailed through the episode with no problem."

According to independent press reports and various Internet analyst groups, the worm, which spread through network connections by exploiting a weakness in Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 database software, may have affected up to 300,000 servers worldwide in its three-day sweep across Asia, the Americas and Europe.

"Ensynch's Managed Services environment offers protection to our customers similar to the human body's own immune system," said Bennett. "We deal with a large variety of customers, hardware, and software, and are therefore exposed to a wide range of potential threats. Our custom-designed firewalls provide an initial layer of security that protects our Managed Services environment from most network-based attacks. And because our standard operating procedures include rigorous review of patches and fixes as soon as they become available, we had learned of this particular SQL Server vulnerability over six months ago and had applied the appropriate software hot-fixes at that time."

Ensynch currently hosts and manages several dozen SQL Server installations for its Managed Services customers. None were adversely affected by the recent SQL Slammer attack.
